Dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet is an eating plan that emphasizes consumption of fruits, vegetables, and low sodium, low-fat dairy foods, low amounts of saturated fat, total fat, and cholesterol to reduce blood pressure. The DASH diet includes whole grains, poultry, fish, and nuts. It emphasizes reduced amounts of fats, red meats, sweets, and sugared beverages. The DASH diet is used for both preventing and controlling high blood pressure. Successful adoption of DASH diet requires many behavioural changes.
The World Health Organisation has estimated that high blood pressure causes one in every 8 deaths worldwide, making hypertension the third leading killer in the world. Every individual has blood pressure which is necessary to move blood through the arteries and to provide oxygen to the tissue of the body. Normal blood pressure is when a people is lower than 120/80 mmHg.
What is lactose intolerance?
An enzyme in the small intestine "lactase" break down lactose (milk sugar) into smaller sugars units "glucose" and "galactose”. Deficiency of lactase or reduced activity of enzyme causes lactose intolerance. Lactose is supposed to enhance calcium absorption. About 50% of the adults from Asian and African population suffer from lactase deficiency.
Sugar substitutes/Artificial sweetener as the name suggest are used to replace sugar for its sweet taste but provide negligible calories. They can be obtained from natural sources or synthesized chemically.These are commercially available in powder, tablet or liquid form. They are often mixed with beverages and sweet for diabetics who need to restrict sugar intake because this sweetener does not require insulin for there metabolism. Some of the artificial sweeteners have the metallic after taste.
